How do you deal with a lazy boss?
Or generally any boss you dislike?
How do you handle a boss that doesn't pull their own weight? Someone that lazes around and doesn't help unless they're made/have to?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You have two options:
1. Deal with it and manage up, making yourself look better in front of your boss's boss (if there is one)
or
2. Quit and move on, if you feel you are not appreciated.
I only have about one consistent rule in my life - "Do not work for an a-hole."
I have been in this situation. Usually, those that have the real power will notice and don't like to see managers that are completely useless.
HOWEVER, some managers may think that your boss is the best in the world because you are doing all the work and he is doing nothing, so you have to watch your step. If he is best friends with his boss (and therefore your boss), then it can be a difficult situation. You just have to see how many connections he has and whether a bunch of people dislike him for the same reasons.
Business has a lot to do with high school, as it is a lot like a popularity contest and very cliquey.
Again, tread lightly, and "manage up." You may be his boss at some point.
