How do you clean a coat?
Is it safe to wash a coat or jacket in the washing machine? How can I protect my clothing?

There are various methods to clean coats, depending on the type that you have. For example, to clean a leather coat, you would simply use a damp cloth with mild detergent to wipe the surface. This is gentle enough to protect the delicate material.
To clean a down jacket, you can safely wash it in the washing machine with warm water. During the wash cycle, open the washing machine lid and check the jacket for air bubbles. Squeeze the jacket to release the air. Put an old pair of tennis shoes inside a sock along with 3 tennis balls. Dry your down jacket on auto-dry for at least 30 minutes. When you remove it from the dry, break up the lumps and gently shake the jacket to get it back to its original shape.
