We usually spend Mother’s Day together as a family. My three men (husband and two sons) take me out to the restaurant of my choice and then we do fun things together, like go shopping or catch a movie afterwards. I love spending the time with my family and I like remembering what the day is all about: the joy and glory coupled with the challenges of being a mother to amazing kids who know how to show their appreciation and warm your heart every time they smile at you or make you laugh. I do get my alone time every day, usually in the evenings, and while it is something that I have found I need to maintain calmness and sanity, I try to spend as much time with my children (and not just on Mother’s Day) as possible, which can be difficult, since I work all day while my children are away at school. Usually we get some time together in the evenings, but our schedules can be hectic. This is why I try to take special occasions like Mother’s Day as an opportunity to increase quality family time.

I don't really celebrate any holidays. My kids are both thousands of miles away, so I don't see them, and I ask them not to send me anything. I just don't believe in commercialized holidays at all.

I start out by saying a prayer for my Mother and Grandmothers and then take the wife and kids out to a late lunch.

Well, I'm not a mother, so taking time out for myself on Mother's Day wouldn't make all that much sense (it'd just mean not celebrating it), and I sure can't spend the day with kids I don't have.

What our family usually does is have dinner together. Sometimes we go out, other times we eat in; this year we're just cooking dinner -- the place we were hoping to go for brunch was already booked by the time we called. And we buy presents for our mother and grandmother, and cards, and it's just nice family bonding time.

We spend it together as a family. I could take time to myself if I asked everyone would understand but I'd rather be with my family. We usually go out to eat and they all bring me cards and flowers. This year my husband took me shopping for a new stereo since mine died.

I'd adore to have part of the day to myself and spend the other part doing something as a family, but much like last year I suspect my husband won't even remember, will go out and do something since he works all week and leave me here with are two kids who are too young to remember..yet again. As wonderful as he is, the universe does not extend beyond his head.
