How do you catch leprosy?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Leprosy(also known as Hansen disease) is caused by a rod shaped bacterium called Mycobacterium leprae. It is relative to the bacterium that causes tuberculosis
It is not clear how it is transmitted. It is believed it comes from inhaling the bacteria from dust. But for people living in the same house and in close contact, there's only 5% chance to be transmitted. It is favored by zones with unhygienic conditions and malnutrition.
