How do you calculate cubic feet?

Tip for best answer: M$0.10
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Being a unit of measure, you wouldn't technically calculate cubic feet, but rather you would calculate a volume in units of cubic feet. The standard formula would be:

Volume = length x width x height

So a box 2 feet by 3 feet by 4 feet, would have:

volume = 2ft x 3ft x 4ft = 24 ft*ft*ft = 24 cubic feet

You can also convert a volume into units of cubic feet by substituting the conversion factor. Example:

2 cubic yards = ??? cubic feet
well, 1 yard = 3 feet
therefore, 1 cubic yard = 1 yard x 1 yard x 1 yard = 3 feet x 3 feet x 3 feet = 27 cubic feet
So, 2 cubic yards = 2 x 27 cubic feet = 54 cubic feet

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Multiply the length X height X width. For example, if you have a box that is 2 feet high, 3 feet long, and 4 feet wide, the cubic feet of the box would be 2 X 3 X 4, or 24 cubic feet.

lol...we answered at the same time, but it's interesting we chose the same example, albeit a common one. :)
