how do vegetarians get iron?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Sources of iron for vegetarians:
- Soybeans
- Pumpkin seeds and seed kernels
- Winged beans
- Tomatoes
- Spinach
- Lentils
- Tofu
- Chickpeas
- Black-eyed peas
- Fortified bread
- Fortified breakfast cereals

Please visit the sources, there you can find the lists for more comprehensive information. But I warn you, overdose of iron can be dangerous including coma, metabolic acidosis, shock, liver failure, coagulopathy, adult respiratory distress syndrome, long-term organ damage, and even death.

There are a large number of vegan/vegetarian-acceptable foods that hold Iron.

These include Leafy Greens like Spinach, Turnip leaves, and Beet leaves.

Also Beans like Soy, Black, Pinto, and LIma

And others like Tofu, Bagels, and Potatoes.

When it comes to Iron, there are two different types. Non-meat related Iron happens to be the tougher one to digest between the two. This means, that in order to avoid health problems such as Iron deficiency anemia, you should consume more of these Iron-rich foods than you would those associated with meat products.

In the source provided, there is list that tells you which foods are Iron-rich...
