How do Smurfs propagate?

i.e. where did baby smurf come from?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

As we all know (but is confirmed by wikipedia):
Baby Smurf was delivered by a stork on a blue moon night to the Smurf village.
Smurfette was created by Gargamel and Sassette was created by the Smurflings because they wanted a sister. Apparently it is not so difficult to make smurfs from scratch (however the may come up a bit nasty at first).
Another way to make smurfs is the case of Reflection Smurf who used to be Vanity Smurf's reflection (it is also the first case of a smurf with situs inversus without respiratory problems)
However, recent findings have suggested another way.
Here are some evidences
This is baby smurf as we know him

But I've found this on a toy store once (of course I bought it)

Considering that smurfs have distinctive outfits, one might think these are two differente babies. Who is this baby with the pink outfit? And more importantly, whose baby is it?
It requires further research.

My own experience as a Smurf fan and a toy-store tourist.

Smurfs are delivered by a stork during the blue moon and that happens once every 100 years. That is how baby smurf came to be. This was revealed to us in the episode "Once Upon a Blue Moon."
Smurfette, on the other hand, was a creation of Gargamel and later accepted to be a part of the smurf village.

I don't know. The episode doesn't necessarily explain that out. I'm thinking that these details were left left to have our imaginations fill in the gaps. But only the creators know what the true intention of leaving those details out.

Until you asked that question, I didn't even think about it. Maybe the baby comes from the blue moon itself and the stork is just picking it up from there.

I think you are correct, and the sources are convincing. But, where does the stork get the baby smurf? Does it make the baby itself?

I really think smurfs multiply through mitosis. Aside from the above-mentioned answers, what if two smurfs were to travel to a distant location, far away from Gargamel and magic mirrors? How would they multiply?

It's quite obvious there's nothing underneath their little leotard - even though they are a cartoon, there's no distinctive shape that would lead one to believe they have external reproductive organs. I think that when smurfs eat enough, they simply divide into two. This could also explain Reflection Smurf, if you can prove that the story is actually Vanity Smurf's point of view after taking some designer drug(which I'm sure we could all believe would happen).

Smurfette, being a creation of Gargamel, was accepted by the smurfs - but not by me. She is not a smurf, she is simply an accepted abomination. Reflection was a drug trip, and the story of Baby Smurf(the whole "delivered on a blue moon" scenario) is simply a made-up falsehood to prevent young smurfs from knowing the secrets of their reproduction(much as I'm sure everyone here has heard the stork story).

The birds and the bees, as explained to the smurfs, would be more akin to "be sure you never eat after you are full, but if you must, wear a bib and loose-fitting clothing". Of course, this is all just my personal theory, helpfully documented by my lovely girlfriend for ease of reference during a rant one day on the reproductive systems of Saturday morning cartoons.
