A drama script can be written within a 20 days to a month once the idea for the script is in gear. Generally drama scripts follow what is known as a three act structure. A script is usually 90-110 pages long for a feature film. Otherwise it is between 50 to 55 pages for a television drama. The three act structure is simple. The first act, which represents the first thirty pages, is the introduction. In the first fifteen pages of the thirty pages, the protagonist’s mission or overall story conflict is clearly revealed. Pages 16-30 show the first challenge that the protagonist overcomes. This is a prelude to the main challenge. The antagonist of the story and how he or she challenges the protagonist is also revealed in this act. The second act shows the protagonist’s challenges further while on their mission. This is where a trusted confidant betrays the protagonist. This is also where the protagonist loses the second challenge on their mission or goal. The third act resolves everything and shows mainly how the protagonist outwits the antagonist, if possible, and achieves the aim that was set forth in act 1. By around page 65 or 70 the protagonist is at a lose all stage and there is no going back other than face the problem head on. For scripting software, try Final Draft, found at finaldraft.com. It automatically formats for you so you just write.
