How do I volunteer to help the sea life from the recent Gulf oil spill?
I want to do something to help the sea life that is encountering this oil spill in the Gulf. However, I am not sure what I can do to help. Is there a way I can dedicate my time to help rescuers? What about supplies? Are the rescuers in need of anything that will be of benefit? Could a drive be organized in my home town for items? Could I actually volunteer to do some hands on work? I want to help, but don't know where to begin.

There are a number of different organizations that are coordinating volunteer efforts as well as training for those interested in helping. TakePart.com has a huge list of ways you can volunteer and report wildlife that have been affected.
Groups
National Wildlife Federation
International Bird Rescue and Research Center
National Audubon Society
OilSpillVolunteers.com
Mobile Bay National Estuary Program
Mobile Baykeeper
Matter of Trust
The Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board
Save Our Seabirds
The Greater New Orleans Foundation
Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary
Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research
They are also looking for supplies to aid in the clean-up, such as kennels, towels, sheets, Dawn detergent, paper towels and bottled water.
There is also a note that if you are not working with one of these groups, you should not try to help any wildlife you see. Instead report any in-dangered animals to the Wildlife Reporting Hot-line at 866-557-1401
