How do I treat pain when breastfeeding?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Organic yoghurt with no sugar or sweetners added is best, you can get it from health food stores and some good supermarkets in the states. If you hate it unsweetened, add honey (but just for moms not babies with honey). The problem with the sugar and sweetners is that it makes thrush much much worse, so anything with sugar in it should also be cut down- sweets in general, alcoholic drinks and canned sodas make thrush grow and breed.
If your breasts are sore because you are decreasing the feeds or trying to wean your child, I used cabbage leaves in my bra- I didn't find it that comfortable, but I think the coolness of the cabbage helps your sore breasts feel better.
Good luck, this kind of problem is frustrating because you are doing the best thing in the world by breastfeeding your child and it should be a wonderful, nurturing, bonding with your child not a painful experience.

M$There is a treatment that uses gentian Violet. it is by a Dr. Jack Newman. They say it stains clothing . It is listed on this site http://www.motheringfromtheheart.com/Gentianviolet.htm .
These treatments are appropriate for general nipple soreness when you first start breastfeeding. This is the type of discomfort that is usually caused by the baby incorrectly latching onto the breast. This is NOT what I am experiencing. This is my second baby so I am familiar with the typical soreness that occurs. This is far worse. I am concerned that since my baby had thrush, he gave it to me, and that I will perhaps now give it back to him!
