You can do anything you want to at home but as a mom of 3 ,I can tell you that once they leave your care they will not always do what you say.
The teacher is resposible to correct the issue. Most schools have steps they take for these types of outbursts.Maybe your child needs to be sent out of the room when he does it.Maybe a visit to the office and a little embarrasment in front of his classmates will do the trick.
My daughter is mortified to think the teacher will pick her out and send her out of the class.She has seen it done to others in her class. That was all it took for her.

Just because a behavior makes an adult uncomfortable doesn't make the behavior "wrong" or worth punishing.
After all, what is your child learning? Not to participate? If you know the answer you'll get punished? How confusing!
First grade behaviors are not the "make or break" years of a persons life. :)
Besides, there are plenty of adults who make their living from interrupting others. Like politicians, talk show hosts, lawyers, TEACHERS... Maybe it bothers the teacher because they don't like the competition. hehe
Unless your child has a diagnosed learning disability or mental condition you didn't mention, let them be a child and tell the teacher to quit punishing your child by setting a good example and encourage the other kids to speak up and participate too. Maybe that teacher doesn't have the skill to adapt, should your child truly be punished for the teachers lack of classroom skills?
