As strange as this sounds, sprinkle a little salt over the watermelon and it will become sweeter... http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/surveys/poll-do-you-salt-your-watermelon-025691

This baby likes his watermelon slice!

hi, there must just be something wrong with that watermelon you bought.

It may have been picked too green.

In that regard, you can cut it into cubes, and for each 2 cups of watermelon cubes, soak it in about 1T. sugar and 1T. of water, chilled in the refrigerator.

It also can be frozen, in those little cubes, and eaten frozen, if you like!

hope it helps!

I love freezing watermelon and using it like ice cubes in lemonade or punch! Doesn't have to be too sweet to do that either which is nice for this question :)

I recommend sprinkling sugar over the watermelon. There are alternatives though. You could add honey. If you leave the watermelon in a concentrated solution of sugar, the solution gets absorbed by it. Good luck!

Personally, I would sprinkle a little Spenda on the slices. That should do it.

Not sure why you have the "unhelpful" vote but I'm going to give you a helpful vote to offset that... your option is a perfectly valid opinion.

There is not much you can do to sweeten an already cut watermelon, but the next time you pick one, look for a melon that is heavy for its size and has a pronounced light spot on the bottom. The spot on the bottom lets you know that the melon has had sufficient time to ripen on the vine and create the sugars you desire.

Adding a little Splenda to it is good (and no added calories!).

Yeah, adding sprinkling salt or sugar would work, it's just salt makes it more tasteful and less sweet.

Sprinkle with a bit of salt. It will make it taste sweeter.
But if the taste of really bland then no amount of salt will do. This case try soaking it for a minute or two in sugarwater.

I bought a big one that wasn't sweet and it wasn't cheap so I did not want to waste it. So , I took it all off the rind and and chopped it into big chunks. Then I poured the juice that collected in the bottom into a small bowl and added 1/4 cup of white sugar. I mixed this together until most of the sugar was dissolved. Then I added a few tablespoons water and mixed it some more. I carefully drizzled this sweetened juice all over the melon in the bowl being carefully to leave the small amount of undissolved sugar in the bottom of the bowl. Then I repoured the juice that collected at the bottom of the watermelon bowl back into the small bowl, remixed it with the remaining undissolved sugar and drizzled it back on the watermelon. I just served it and it tastes naturally sweet with the stuff soaking in the sugar liquid juice a bit sweeter but noone knows the difference.

It isn't ripe yet. Even adding sugar will still keep the bitterness of it. Ick.
