How do I stop biting my nails?

I've tried all the "stop biting" nail polishes and fake nails, almost every way I can think of to stop biting my nails but nothing has worked. Does anyone know of any other way besides those that help with nail biting?

WikiHow had some good suggestions:
1. Confront your problem. Get a camera and take some pictures of your bitten fingernails. Examine your nails, and list their problems.
2. Visualize yourself with healthy nails, and how great they will look.
3. Pick at least one nail to "protect" at a time.

3a. After a few days, an non-bitten nail will flourish and reward you. Do not bite it. If you must, bite one of the 'unprotected' ones. Sometimes it elps knowing that you have another nail to bite, even if you don't actually nibble at any unprotected ones.
3b.Once you have grown your non-bitten nail for a while, start protecting another one. And another. And another, until every single nail is protected.

I have the same problem. Keeping my nails polished helped me some. I see you have tried that. Good luck.

I have heard that holding something, or carrying something is a good method. It increases your awareness when you don't have that article in your hand.

My personal suggestion would be to cut your nails really short (see picture), so there is nothing to bite. I have a tendency to pick at my nails (especially if they're split or peeling) but when their short - I have nothing to pick at.

After doing some research on the web I would suggest trying the following:

1. It may be that your nails aren't the problem, it's your mouth (oral fixation). Maybe try chewing gum to keep you mouth busy?

2. Some people think hypnosis is the bee's knees. If you're up for it (or desperate) I'd give it a try.

3. And if you don't mind looking silly, you could try putting stickers or pieces of tape on the ends of your nails as a reminder to not bite them. Or wear gloves whenever you get the urge to bite.

Hmm well I've already tried cutting them down to nothing but that doesn't stop it. I've tried the gum thing. And I've tried the gloves.... Thank you though!

I have had this exact same problem all my life, I've used the nail caps, the polish, and the only thing that stopped me was canned compressed air(dust remover). I stumbled upon this extremely effective tactic completely by accident. I was blowing out the dust inside my computer with a can of compressed air I purchased at Staples. I was trying to get a a tricky place, so I turned it can upside down. Doing this causes the chemical inside to come out in liquid form, which got all over my hands. Most of these cans now contain a "bittering agent" which is to discourage inhalant abuse. Well, this bittering agent tasted horrible. It was absolutely the worst thing I have ever tasted. When I start to bite my nails (typically subconsciously) I just go clean out my computer. Now, I don't recommend this method, for the substance is almost impossible to remove. It stays on for a long time. But it works! I haven't bitten my nails in almost a month and a half. I'm now practicing proper finger hygiene. :)

I've heard that painting them with lemon juice works. Unless you like/are OK with sour stuff. Then you could soak/paint it with something spicy, like hotsauce. Unless you like spicy stuff, then I have no idea what you could do. good luck,

Keep yourself busy with work especially in which you use your hand more than any other body part. Like you can do typing, knitting, sewing clothes, writing etc.

Don't type in all caps. It's really annoying. It almost looks like you're trying to say that you're yelling. And nobody ever wants to be yelled at.
