How do i set up MS Outlook on a Microsoft Exchange Server from a Remote Connection?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Things You'll Need:

* PC running Windows XP or later
* Microsoft Outlook 2003 or later

Step 1
Connect to the remote PC computer using the Remote Desktop Connection program and then log in to the remote system. You will need to know the remote computer's IP address or host name to establish the connection.

Step 2
Open the Start menu and click on the "Control Panel" icon.

Step 3
Double-click on the "Mail" icon.

Step 4
Click on the "Show Profiles" button and hit "Add" to create a new Outlook profile on the remote computer.

Step 5
Enter a name for the new Outlook profile and hit "OK" when you are finished.

Step 6
Click "Next" and select the "Microsoft Exchange Server" option from the list of account types.

Step 7
Hit "Next" again and enter the server address and username that you use to connect to your Exchange account.

Step 8
Click "Next" and "Finish" to complete the Outlook setup process.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Depends somewhat upon what version of Outlook and what version of Exchange. If they are new enough you can set up Outlook to connect to Exchange over HTTP. Go through the setup wizard when you first start Outlook and give it your e-mail address and password - it should try to connect for you.

But if they're too old (Outlook XP or older) or if the server isn't configured to support RPC over HTTP (aka Outlook Anywhere) then you'll need a VPN connection. Either way, I'd suggest asking your Exchange administrator what he recommends.
