How do I mix two Kanekalon jumbo braids together? & How do I layer synthetic dreads in my hair so that it doesn't look shabby?
1. None of the colors match my hair perfectly (obviously) so I bought a few different colors to mix, but the hair is so frizzy it's a lot harder than I thought. Do you have any tips on getting the colors to blend in the pre-back comb stage?
2. Since I haven't actually made my dreads, i don't have experience putting them in yet, but I find it hard to believe that having them all the exact same length would look good on your head. I'm planning on shorter ones - maybe 8 - 12 inches long. Is that too short? and should I plan to put longer ones on top? ; shorter ones in the back? ; etc. This part I would especially like to know a lot about. I don't want to end up looking like a shaggy hippie lol (not that that's bad, just not my style..)
I think I had more questions, but I forgot D: I'll add more when I remember
Thank you for your help!
I don't have a lot of 'money' to offer, otherwise I would. Hopefully whoever helps me is a nice person who is okay with my meager offerings
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

To get the colors to blend in the pre-back comb stage, I usually select the colors I need and then place them together on a table. When I have it arranged the way I want it to look on my hair, I take a little of each and add it on to a little of the other before back combing it.
It is easier if you put the colors you want together in one hand, and use the fingers of the other hand to pull out the braids, making sure you mix the two colors as you drag them over to the other hand.
In terms of what length to choose, it is better to pick a length that is a little longer than your own hair and nothing shorter so that you won’t have to attach rubber bands to their ends. The longer ones should be at the top and shorter ones at the back, so that when you decide to bond it to the back, they would have equal lengths, except you have a particular style in mind.
Since you are new to making dreads, I will suggest you start with a smaller size

M$A: The kanekalon is just going to look rough until you start using the wax. Separate it out into some smaller sections and make it so that you have the different colors in different layers lying on one another. When you backcomb the dread the hairs will gather and move around.

A:From your icon I think you're female, so I suggest thin and long dreads. 12 inches at least. thinner dreads look cleaner and tighter in my opinion, and can be pulled back easier. the longest should go on the bottom if you vary the sizes. I suggest not making any thick dreads on the top of your head, because it will be heavy and look a little silly if it's 4 inches tall on the top. Particularly since you don't like the hippy look, I suggest making dreads that are thin and make sure you wax them heavily so they don't have a nappy texture.

M$I didn't mean braids, I mean dreads. Whoops. Anyway, I wouldn't go thicker than 1/2 inch.
"the longest should go on the bottom if you vary the sizes."
Won't that look like a mullet.. ? lol
No, not if you do it with thin braids. Just don't make the sections on top shorter than about 8 inches. It has to hang longer. Mullets are like they are because the layers are very short throughout, but then the bottom rat tails.
