It is super easy and convenient to make calls through Google's Gmail. Google released this feature recently and you can call any regular phone number from a Gmail account. This done through a mix of Gmail and Google Voice technology. Google voice lets users to dial numbers from their computers and get incoming calls with your own Google Voice number. Google Voice accounts can actually be linked for Gmail users and their inboxes will be used like another line. Now, to make calls in your Gmail, go to your gChat and click on the green phone icon. A window will open in the bottom left corner with a dial pad. All you have to do now is dial! U.S. and Canadian calls are free and other countries will be about 2 cents a minute.

You may see on the upper-right of the dial pad, $0.10 with a drop-down arrow. This will allow you to select the rates. A new page will open with the cost of calls per minute to various countries. Calls within the United States are free.
It gets more interesting though. With Google Voice you can get a Google phone number, have your voicemails automatically transcribed, save your voicemails like e-mails, and experience other features like call-waiting, call-screening, customized ringtones, customized messages, and more. You can then attach your Google phone number to one of your existing phone lines (mobile, landline, office) and your Google calls will be forwarded to that phone.
