How do I make my external web cam the default web cam in Windows Vista?

I just installed a Logitech webcam that I would like to use on sites like Chatroulette, but it always defaults to the built in "YouCam".
Tip for best answer: M$3.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hi jbennettrv,
For your new Logitech webcam to function as the default webcam, you have to disable the inbuilt ‘’YouCam’’. To do this you have to turn it off in the BIOS setting which usually comes up while your computer is booting.
First restart your computer, before it boots hold down on the set key probably f2 for f3 (depending on the computer you are using). When you do this a list of options would come up, choose the option with the name’’ hardware/ peripherals’’, another list would come up. Search for the one labeled ‘‘camera’’, and disable it. Make sure you save this BIOS setting before you exit the page.
Next, allow the computer to boot normally and try again (this should work). If you are still having problems go to ‘’settings’’ on your computer, look for ‘’hardware’’, select your Logitech webcam right click and use it as the default webcam. Remember to restart your computer.
You didn’t mention the ‘’make’’ (e.g. Hp, Sony etc) of your laptop or PC in your question. But nevertheless this works for all types, if you encounter more problems, send me a PM. Enjoy your new webcam 

Right click on ''MY computer''' then select ''properties'' then choose ''device manager'''. You would see the inbuilt camera image, right click on the ''camera'' and disable it.Restart your computer and then make the new webcam the default camera.Hopet his helps

If you are using an external webcam, please make sure to install any webcam software from the CD before you plug the webcam to your computer. Without the software, the webcam may not be recognized by your computer and this can cause error messages.

The software has been installed, the web cam is plugged in, and the computer does recognize the cam when I double click on it. But when I go to a site like ChatRoulette, it automatically selects the built in "YouCam"...
