How do I make my cat stop tipping over his water bowl?

I have a 5 month old kitten, and he can be a handful. (I still love him though!) We've had him for a few months and only recently has he found the need to tip his bowl every single time I give him some water. I can get him to drink it, but as soon as I turn my back he dumps it, then comes to me wanting more.

Is there an easy way to get him to not dump it every time?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There's no way to train a cat. They train you. It's a fact of cat science.

So instead of banging your head against the wall trying to get a cat to listen to your commands, go out and buy yourself a new water bowl from the pet store. You will find a number of varieties that are "untippable".

And make sure that water bowl stays FULL!

My cats sometimes like to dip their paws in their water (for gods knows what reason!), and if the water's low, they purposely knock it over. So if the water's full there's less chance of malicious paw sabotage - accidental or not!

Good luck!

does the kitten spend any time in a carrier? you can find a water dish that mounts to the side of the carrier from petco or some such store. I use this for my dog, she does the same thing. I suppose that you can also attach it to the side of a cardboard box laid on its side; cat must go in box to get the water, but
can't tip it over while its in the box.

You can also use a very heavy dish, made of ceramic, depends on how much of a brute you have on your hands!

Here's a link, (i have no interest in this company) http://www.bargainbuypetsupply.com/ShoppingCart/Templates/AdvProd.asp?G=083CCE6E-653D-4F22-AD22-3633D947BA99&P=3423&RID=503

good luck!!
