With consumers turning to coupons more and more, counterfeiters and scam artists are finding more and more opportunities to scam innocent consumers. Many of these scams are set up through web sites that promise big coupon savings. There are legitimate coupon websites, but there are also many that are scams. Here's how to tell if a coupon website is legitimate.
Instructions
1.Check for how long the coupon website has been in operation and avoid any that are new on the scene.
2.Do a quick search that includes the name of the coupon website and the words "counterfeit coupons," "scam" and "fraud" to see if there is any chatter regarding the website and possible scams.
3.Be extremely suspicious of any sites that require you to pay for coupons. You shouldn't have to pay money to save money.
4.Use this website suggested by ABC's Good Morning America to investigate: www.cents-off.com where you will find a variety of useful information about current coupon scams and what to do if you fall victim to one.

M$Like you, I also hate clicking on mysterious links but most often I have no choice than to click on them in order to get the coupon codes. It is indeed tough to trust them easily because you are at a great risk of being scammed or phished. So here are my tips that I also follow myself:
1. Search only through trusted coupon/codes sites. This lessens the probability of getting fake coupon codes.
2. Once you have the coupon codes, try entering them if they work or not. That really is another good way to know those coupon codes are fake or legitimate.
3. The best way is to only look for coupon codes at the manufacturer’s/merchant’s website. This way, you are sure it’s legitimate because it’s the owner giving those coupon codes.

M$If you go to an official site, you are often prompted to register for free and then you have access to all available coupons.
If that is not enough and you still want more coupons, choose a well known coupon site like coupons.com or retailmenot.
By doing these things, you can be assured that your coupons are indeed legitimate and better yet, you will not accidentally click on something online that ends up crashing your computer. The same thing goes for coupon codes. Pick a well known and trusted site and the coupon code should indeed be legitimate. I am sure there are some sites out there that are not legitimate. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3172/2550113680_a7eb891cab_t.jpg

M$When I'm looking for legitamate coupon codes and promo codes I usually stick to reliable websites that display an expiration date. I also look for the sites that gett their online coupon codes directly from the retailer. One site inparticular that does an eccellent job at posting promo codes, free shipping codes, in store printable coupons and online coupon codes is Coupology.com . Coupology.com also has a pretty good selection of your local neighborhood coupons. Check it out for yourself at http://coupology.com
