How do I get an old vhs tape to play on youtube? What do I need to buy to transfer it from the VHS to the computer?

I have some old videos that I want to share with some of my friends that don't live nearby. Is there a way that I can upload them from my vhs player to my computer so that I can email them or post them to youtube?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

For quick and easy (within reasonable price) solution have a look at Pinnacle Video Transfer ($87.48 + shipping from Amazon.com)
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Home+Video/Studio+Family/Instant+Video+Recorder.htm

If your still have the video player, you can connect it to the Pinnacle Video Transfer via Composite Video or S-Video the connect the audio via Stereo Audio (RCA).

Then, you would connect the other end of Pinnacle Video Transfer device to USB external hard drive or USB flash memory stick. From here, you can connect the USB hard drive to the PC and import it using VideoSpin.

VideoSpin would let you export the file captured into different formats including one that is compatible for YouTube. The instruction is available here
