How do I get a realistic claw going through paper effect in Photoshop?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I have been looking through the tutorials and forums for a really good idea of what you might like to do though...
The image below uses a combination of effects - the torn page look, a slight page curl and then the blending of the claws. I'm going to assume you sort of know how to layer the final claws if you get the paper right ( I hope that's OK ) so I will link the best tutorials I have found for these types of effects.
Now, from the image below ( if you wanted one like that ) they have done in stages. They have added the rips either as separate layers or done the work as one - I suggest doing each rip as a layer, then you can slightly bend or warp them as required once the final claws are added. You see how these marks are straight, well, I think you could twist one slightly to make it more jagged.....

The cut photo effect - or torn effect - tutorial here. To get the bunched up edges of rips like the image above clone smaller sections of the rip once done, layer over the top and blend. You will probably need a slight shadow effect on the top layer to make it look like its projecting in front of the page

The ripped poster look - the torn effect - tutorial here. For the edges of the claw marks check through this tutorial, it will help you blend the rips with the paper on the edges ( hard to explain )

The page curl effect to create the rips - the bunched up sides of the paper - here. What you are doing is using this effect on some small sections to create the bunched up look. You may not need it. You may find doing the rips and a few other layers of rips to show bunching is OK, or you could try a bit of page curl, then do the rip effect of what's been curled....again, pretty hard to describe

So, I hope these help, you never know, someone may find the perfect tutorial but without knowing exactly what your skill level is its hard to give precise steps.
I would start out by experimenting with rips, then adding pieces as layers to give depth, then blending the claws over the top. If it didn't look real enough, I would try a page curl effect, then rips, then blending.
You will need to experiment :)

M$First, I googled for, "claw through image, photoshop." Then, I clicked on this link: http://www.rnel.net/search/photoshop/claw_tear-tutorials-1. Then, I clicked on, "Tear Photo Effect."
On http://www.rnel.net/tutorial/Photoshop/6242, it shows you how to make a one line tear instead of four or five. I believe it would be better for you to view the instructions as oppose to relying on me paraphrasing them. Looking at images is important.
I hope this answer is helpful. I wish u luck on your image.
