How do I find the right clothing manufacturer for my products, in China or elsewhere?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There are two popular sites in Hong Kong for people looking for suppliers:

- http://www.hktdc.com/ (The Trade Development Council)
- http://www.globalsources.com/manufacturers/Clothing.html (Global Sources)

Global Sources is a publisher of trade magazines and directory. The company offers a range of sourcing services for a fee, including their on-line search directories and face-to-face meeting with the prospective suppliers.

The Trade Development Council is a quasi-government body specialized in promoting business with Hong Kong companies. Their service scope has expanded over the years. It organizes trade shows for different sectors, including fashion, watch, electronic products among others, every year. You may post your buying needs on their website in order to get responses from the appropriate and interested manufacturers. Some buyers may simply come directly to one of the trade shows to talk with the exhibitors face-to-face.

If you have never done any business with a Chinese manufacturer before, you may find that communication is often a problem. As a start, it may be better for you to find Chinese manufacturers set up by Hong Kong owners. Not only do they communicate better in English, they are also more familiar with international business practices.
