How do I create articles and make money on Mahalo?

i just signed up with my twitter account and would like to tell other friends about mahalo, but would like to know a bit more first.
Tip for best answer: M$2.40
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Here are some resources to get you started.

1. How Mahalo Works A great place to start, a little bit of everything.

2. How to Build a Mahalo Page Read and really use and get to know all the information contained on this page.

3. Mahalo Tutorials Great video lessons from @lon and the rest of the crew.
You can watch and review all the past lessons and watch the latest on Ustream. Look for announcements of upcoming Mahalo Tutorials, these helped me A LOT.

4. Mahalo Page Management Guide This will give you all you need to know on how to keep the page updated and where to get the information needed.

5. How to Market a Mahalo Page Once you have the hang of it then it is time to show the world how you have done and hopefully make some Mahalo Dollars as well. This will show you how.

Mahalo has taught me very well and continues to teach me every day, so just have a bit of fun and remember we are here to help so just as many questions as you need to.

There are several different ways to manage pages here at Mahalo. Of course you should check out all the Mahalo tutorials as well, but here's a quick run-down:

1. Mahalo Tasks

Click on Mahalo Tasks at the top of the page. These are "tasks" or pages that Mahalo would like to have created. However, some tasks can only be claimed by certain people. "Pre-Approved" are for only the designated Mahalo user; How-To pages can only be claimed by people on the How To Team; How-To Rush Week can be claimed by anyone who would like to be included in the How To Team - just claim one of these and wait for approval; Barnraising or other tasks are up for grabs by anyone. Just open up the task, click the Claim Task button and fill in the requested fields. If it's approved, the page will be build out into a Mahalo page for you to manage. You can then go to the page and edit and update it as needed.

2. Top Searches

Go to the Mahalo.com main page. You'll see a section in the middle called Top Searches. If you want to build a page for one of these topics, just click the Claim button next to it. The page will then be built out, and you can edit and manage the page.

3. Claim An Existing Page

You can search Mahalo by going to Mahalo.com and typing a topic in the search box. However, you may not find the page you're looking for if you don't type it exactly as the page is named. So, it's best to search from Google. Go to the Google search page and type in a topic followed by "site:mahalo.com". This will give you search results for Mahalo pages that contain that topic. If you find what you're looking for, open it up and if it hasn't already been claimed, you can claim it by clicking the Claim This Page link at the top of the page.

4. Build Your Own Page From Scratch

If you want to build a page, you first need to make sure no one has already built it. Go to Google and search for the topic and include "site:mahalo.com" in the search (just like in the previous step). If you don't see it, then go back to Mahalo.com and type in the topic in the search box - make sure to type it exactly the way you want your page to be named. A page will pop up asking you "What is .....". Choose a category, then click Save. Depending upon the category chosen, you will be prompted to fill in some additional fields. Fill them out, then click Save and your page will be built out. You can then claim the page and make edits.

I hope this helps!

EDIT: Oh yeah, you wanted to know how to make money. Basically you get 50% of the pages earnings in Mahalo Dollars. The page earns revenue from the Google ads that you see on the pages. So you want to get as many people as you can to go to your page. You do this by promoting it. You can add links to your page on sites like Digg, Reddit, Delicious and Twitter. You can even search Google to see if anyone has ever asked a question about it in a forum, then go there and answer the question and also adding the link to your page as a source. Also, if you have a website or blog, you can add Widgets to your page.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

awesome answer by @buddawiggi! those are the best resources for learning your way around the community.

if you specifically want to make money by creating pages, i recommend trying out the tasks system. by doing the tasks, you can get valuable feedback from staff and learn what they expect beyond what is in the information pages @buddawiddi gave.

you get paid M$ (Mahalo Dollars) for doing the task, then the page is put under your management. while you manage the page you receive 50% of the adsense revenue it generates. you can generate pages on your own for most types of pages, without going through tasks, but you do not get paid to create the page... just the revenue sharing.

within the tasks system:

if you join a barnraising contest, you can make even more by winning a prize (for 1st through 20th place for the current barnraising, with first prize being M$100)

or you can choose a rush week how to task - these are basically a try-out for the how to team. how to pages can only be made by how to members, so if that is what you are looking to do, this is your avenue to get there. you get paid M$ for these tasks too and get to manage the page.

and of course, you can answer questions and earn tips that way.

however you choose to earn and learn about Mahalo, welcome to the community and i hope you enjoy being here as much as the rest of us do!

I would go with tasks. They bring in the most money. Try to get on the How to team by participating in How to Rush Weeks.
