You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

If your XBox 360 is still under warranty, your best option is to send it in to Microsoft, as anything that you try to do yourself will probably void your warranty.
If it is not under warranty, then you should probably think about getting a new XBox 360. I believe the Red Ring of Death is usually caused by the GPU becomming damaged due to the system overheating. You could do as wdawe said and run your system in a towel for a little while, but I highly doubt this would work and most likely will cause more problems. You could also try fixes offered on online forums, but if your GPU is fried, I doubt you will ever be able to fix the issue. Whatever you do, don't pay for support unless its through Microsoft. If someone found an unofficial way to fix the problem, someone else did too and is posting the information for free out of the goodness of their heart. I really think paying for the online book advertised on that website would be a waste of money.
So, in conclusion, if your system is under warranty, send it to Microsoft, if it is not, try online forums or consider paying Microsoft to fix it. Also, please note that Microsoft has extended the warranty on XBox 360's due to this problem's widespread nature, so make sure you double check your warranty if you think its expired. Hope this helps!

M$What I've read suggests that overheating of the XBOX 360 is causing failure of the solder joints on the GPU processor. If the fix is to reheat the GPU to remelt the solder joints then this may work if the excess heat hasn't damaged the GPU. In any case if the fix doesn't include improving the GPU heatsink in some way then it's likely the problem will recur. On other popular fix suggested is to wrap the XBOX in a towel and run it for 10 minutes. This probably works by causing the GPU to overheat to the point where the solder reflows. The risk with this technique is that you will overheat the GPU to the point where it's damaged. I guess if you are willing to spend the $30 it's not going to make things any worse since the XBOX 360 is a paperweight anyways.
