How can I remove dried candle wax from a glass votive candle holder?

It's like one of these things:

I've wax stuck at the bottom and would like to remove them? I tried something like scissors but it's messy.

Any suggestions besides a sharp object?

If you heat water ( in the tap if it gets hot enough ) to just before boiling you can A: set the container in the water and put a little in the holder. Take the container out of the water ( carefully the water WILL burn you) the melted candle wax will slide right out. Do not let water in holder cool down, dump water out of it before attempting to slide out wax.

The best thing to do with glass votive holders is to prevent the wax buildup in the first place. If you place a tiny bit of water in the bottom of the glass votive prior to placing the candle inside, it should prevent the wax from sticking to the votive.

However, once you have wax stuck to the votive, you should clear a small area in the freezer and gently secure the votive inside to freeze the wax. Allow the votive to sit inside the freezer for several hours to ensure that the wax freezes. After several hours have passed, attempt to pry the wax loose carefully with a dull knife, preferably a butter knife.

The wax should easily become dislodged. Any remaining wax residue can be removed by washing the glass votive in a solution of hot, soapy water.

There are two things I do at home.

1. Partly plug the sink drain with the stopper to stop wax from flowing down the drain. Then run the holder under pure hot water, rotating it and making the wax fall way or melt.

2. If things are really stubborn get a tea kettle and boil water then use the steam to make the wax release...

wash the holder and you should be good to go. Hot water normally does the trick for me.

Both of these suggestions work great. I have a candle fixation, too, and use both of these techniques frequently. The only thing I would add is adding a little dishsoap after the chunks are removed. The dishsoap and hot water will remove the rest of the thin residue.

Try this: Heat up the glass at the bottom until the wax melts. Stick a paper towel or an old cloth into the holder to soak up the wax.

I'm taking this from the "how to get wax off a carpet" idea:

# Let the wax harden, then scrap off the excess with a dull knife.
# Place part of a paper bag, a sheet of newspaper, paper towels, or a clean cloth over the wax.
# Using a warm iron, press gently on the paper bag. Be careful not to leave the iron in one place too long or you may burn the carpet fibers.
# Voila! The paper bag will soak up the melted wax.
