How can I put a limit on Mahalo Answers usage and addiction? It is sometimes a distraction from me getting real work done.

Seriously, you are going to start spending 3x the amount of time on Mahalo.com when we launch M2. I'm going to personally show it to the brown and black belts next week... you guys are going to LOVE IT. it's going to let Brown and Black Belt level folks make M$500 to M$15,000 a YEAR on Mahalo.... not kidding. No matter what tools you use, procrastination is a difficult and important thing to overcome. Personally, when I really start procrastinating, I bring up my bank account. This usually jolts me back to work to make real money ;) If that doesn't work, I look at my job / master plan whiteboard and remember that I have a lot of work to do.

I don't think a time limiter on Mahalo itself would be that useful. For most people that need that sort of functionality, it'll be best for it to be applicable across a range of sites. Also it might be hard for Mahalo to tell if you're actively using the site or it's just sitting open in your browser. So a browser add-in seems like the best way to go.
If it's a common problem for Mahalo users - and it might be! - perhaps it might be useful if the site explained tools like this.

I just added Leechblock to Firefox to take it for a spin. If I have anything interesting to report I'll let you know! If it'll let me back into Mahalo. :)
It works as I would like by timing how long a window/tab has focus, not how long it's open for.
Yes, but it could be open in a tab you're not even looking at.

But I've made over $500 already, so looking forward to seeing what it is that could push that way higher.
Of course even $15k pa is not a fabulous return on a 24/7 Mahalo habit. :)
@philipy It's a wonderful return if you were previously spending your time on a site like Wiki Answers, Yahoo Answers, Wikia, Digg, etc. where you get paid exactly $0 for your contributions. :-)
Seriously, the reward system in Mahalo Answers--and the new more developed reward system in Mahalo 2.0--are NOT intended to be "jobs." They are intended to be a little icing on the cake of participation.
Mahalo Dollars are the cherry on top of the wonderful Mahalo Sundae consisting of community, recognition and the joy that comes from helping and sharing.
