How can I grow herbs indoors?

I love using fresh and dried herbs in my cooking, especially during the holidays. There is an elderly lady that my dad knows that grows herbs inside her home, then she dries and stores them in a spare room. While I know I could grow more outdoors, I'd rather this be a project indoors. I have some rather large windows I can use for direct sunlight. What materials do I need?

I'll begin by assuming you know to get healthy seedlings. It's best to use a window facing south, as that's where you'll get the most sunlight. You should note that growing herbs indoors is not much different from growing outside. You need to get good soil, good fertilizers, and good herbs. It is important to note that some herbs grow better inside then others. Here are a few herbs that grow great indoors: 'GROLAU' CHIVES, 'FERNLEAF' DILL, 'ENGLISH' MINT, 'SPICY GLOBE' BASIL, GREEK OREGANO, BROADLEAF THYME, VIETNAMESE CORIANDER, 'BLUE BOY' ROSEMARY, DWARF GARDEN SAGE, and CREEPING SAVORY. I would suggest starting outside and then slowly weening the herbs off of light and then move them inside, as plants get used to lots and lots of light. Good luck!

To grow an indoor herb garden you have a few good choices. Most of all you will need a sunny windowsill Herb seeds can be planted in a long narrow sill indoor sill box in the kitchen, you can also use pretty pots, old coffee cups or tea cups, coffee cans. The cover the containers with a piece of plastic draped over and secured with tape, or in the case of kits the plastic formed cover acts like a greenhouse and gets your seeds to sprout. As long as the area that you grow has no drafts and keeps a warm moist environment you can have fresh all year round. The same with fragrant herbs for the bathroom. Herbs that like high humidity and sunlight can grow in a bathroom. Now is the time to look at the home
improvement gardening department for herb kits. They are starting to come down in price and have fool proof instructions.

I received a great indoor herb garden for Christmas this past year and I am absolutely loving it! It is called the AeroGarden and it is an all in one type thing. It has a lamp and a water circulation system to keep the herbs growing healthy and beautifully green! I am currently growing cilantro, basil, thyme, oregano, and mint. I love using fresh herbs in just about everything. Look these indoor herb gardens up because they are the absolute best way to grow herbs indoors.
