What percent is 3 of 15?

Like if you have 15grams of calcium and you give 3.5grams away what is the percent? The answer is something like you are giving 1/5 of your total calcium away right? So how do you figure out what percent 1/5 is of 5 grams of calcium

This question is worded very confusingly, so I'm going to answer multiple things...let me know if one of them is what you wanted to know.

1/5 = 20%
1/5 of 5 grams is 1 gram
3.5 is 23 1/3% of 15

20%.

You can think this through a couple ways:
3 is one fifth of 15, and a fifth of something is 20% (helpful for tips)

Or you can just do the math:
3/15 = .2
.2x100 = 20

You can easily convert fractions to percents by simple cross multiplication and then division. For example:

3 of 15:

Step 1 Restate:
3/15 = x/100

Step 2 Cross Multiply:
300 = 15x

Step 3 Solve for 'X' by Dividing:

300/15x

x = 20

Step 4 Plug 20 ('X') back into the original equation (Step 1)

20/100 = .2 or 20%
