Sometimes, the more adventurous try something like snowboarding, depending on whose house we're at. We've also been known to go out to a movie together, or to a casual restaurant.
On the very few occasions where we haven't been able to get together, my own family goes out to a newly-released movie, often preceded by or followed by dinner.

This is how it works:
You go up to the guy on the microphone (usually a pretty annoying guy) and he hands you a random piece of paper from the list. The piece of paper will say something like "This present goes to the person who sounds more like a New Yorker". That person gives the present to whoever sounds most like a New Yorker. That person gets their gift, and then gets another random piece of paper, maybe saying something like "This person is most likely to "trip on a flat piece of concrete". That person gives their present away, keeping in mind not to give a gift to someone who has already gotten one. It goes on until everyone has gotten a gift. The first person will inevitably get the last gift. It gets a lot funnier as the game goes on and the number of people you can give a gift to is limited.

What's your favorite family activity over the Christmas break?
Going to see the tree in Manhattan?
Putting up a tree?
Making a snowman?
Going skiing?
What do you most look forward to during the break?
OK this is my last question as I've got to go upstairs and eat some dinner with the family... 40 of us will get together tonight in Brooklyn... wish you all were here!

Something that me and my whole family does every year (and i'm surprised no one has gotten killed yet) is tie up a bunch of tabogins and tie one end to a hitch on my uncles old station wagon and drive around the country until someone throws up :> ps: I don't recommend this unless you have allot of snow around where you live.

We always go to my college roommate's house, or they come here. Her husband's roommates and their families come, too. We all feel comfortable letting our hair down together and about half of us have kids. We all bring all kinds of Christmas goodies (everything from homemade candy to leftover meat we know we can't eat on our own); our favorite new Christmas present gadgets/videos/games, and sit around for a day (sometimes for a weekend, pre-kids) playing games, watching movies (and critiquing them), and just talking. Sometimes, the more adventurous try something like snowboarding, depending on whose house we're at. We've also been known to go out to a movie together, or to a casual restaurant.

My family does a pretty unique secret snowflake. Anybody in the room is able to get a present as long as they're participating. This is how it works:
