Freecycle! You choose the recipient, and they will come and get them from you (saving your back) or meet you at a designated point. It very well may be a teacher or librarian who requests them.

No one wants to buy old magazines. Donate them to your local Goodwill or Salvation Army for a tax write off.

To join Free Cycle for the Atlanta area, where you can choose who to give your magazines to, go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freecycle-ATL/ This is really easy since they'll come and pick it up from you.
If you want to make money and want to keep it local, Craigslist is a great resource. To post wanting to sell magazines in the Atlanta area, go to: https://post.craigslist.org/atl/S/bks/none/x
If you want to support your local school's library, go to http://www.youseemore.com/AtlantaPS/directory.asp to choose the school nearest you in the Atlanta area and you'll be able to contact that librarian. I could direct you more specifically, but I don't know your current location.
Finally, to contact the public libraries you can go to this page to see which is closest to you and give them a call: http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&q=atlanta+libraries&fb=1&view=text&sa=X&oi=local_group&resnum=4&ct=more-results&cd=1
I hope this is helpful to you, and someone will be happy to get the magazines!

• Thanks for recommending Freecycle. I knew about the obvious places to try and sell them, but I like the idea of finding them a home instead of a landfill. You were first to suggest Freecycle, so you get the tip!

Don't bother with the hassle of eBay, or trying to sell them on Craig's List. It's risky and time consuming. And for what? 20 bucks? No one wants to buy old magazines. Donate them to your local Goodwill or Salvation Army for a tax write off.
