Time to mop floors. Quick question, who decided to call it a Mop?

The English word "mop" dates back to at least 1496 and comes from the Walloon (a Belgian language related to French) "mappe," meaning "napkin." It originally referred to a bundle of yarn on the end of a stick which was used to clean the decks of ships.
