Our leather couch has some small tears in it that are getting larger. Any ideas on how to repair?
I did see a site on the web where a user did a repair by overlapping the torn leather and bonding together with contact cement but there's no slack in our leather to allow this approach.

First you should call a professional. They will come to your home when you have furniture too large to transport and they usually don't charge very much.
Second, check out an online store like vinylpro.com, leatherworldtech.com, leatherrepairkits.com, and leathermagic.com. They have a large selection of colors to choose from and match to your couch. Find a good color so that it does not stick out.
Third, if you just have scratches, even deep ones, there are other things you can do. You can use shoe polish (same color as couch), murphy's oil soap, or olive oil. All of these things work pretty well.
