Easy way: Look on the inside of the refrigerator for a small switch - that's what part of the door hits when it closes, which turns off the light. Push that switch down and see what, if anything, happens. (Hint: most refrigerators have this switch on the top of the refrigerator section - start by looking near the light bulb.)
Fun way: Put a video camera inside the refrigerator (turned on, of course) and close the door for several seconds. Open the door, view the footage, and solve the mystery.
Interesting way: Find a small person, probably a child, who's capable of squeezing into the refrigerator. Close the door, with the observer inside, then open a few seconds later. Ask what happened. (Be sure to open the door only a few SECONDS later, because suffocating in the name of science just isn't necessary in this situation.)
However, a baby is not a good choice for this task, despite being tiny enough to fit on one of the shelves, because most babies refuse to tell you whether the light stayed on or went off. Infants are stubborn creatures, it seems.
Energy-wasting way: Leave the refrigerator door open until the light bulb gets nice and warm. Close the door and come back fifteen minutes, maybe half an hour, later. Open the door and touch the bulb. If it's cool or cold, the light went off.
Expensive way: Call an appliance repairman and ask for his or her assistance.
Destructive way: Drill a hole through the refrigerator door. Close the door and observe through your newly-made peephole.
