Look for a product called paint de-glosser. When I first started painting apartments, we used it to help adhere latex paint over oil-based gloss paints.
It breaks down the gloss surface without resorting to sanding or priming.
The chemical will remove some paint, especially if you rub hard or repeatedly. The ideal application is the sponge on gently and let it work.
As with any other paint product, test it first. If you can, paint a spare piece of drywall (you can buy "repair" squares at Home Depot) in the same manner that you've painted the wall. You can divide the square into sections and test different treatments before committing to the entire wall.
