how do you clean an etched brass plate?

The plate is large and filled with a busy design. I tried brass cleaner, but it left a white residue in all the tiny lines.

Brasso brass cleaner is safe to use on etched brass. Here's the website: http://www.reckittprofessional.com/productpro/ProductSearch.do?searchTerm=brasso&searchType=ST

You can pick this stuff up at most supermarkets for about 4 dollars.
