What is the best mountain bike for teenage girl?

I'm looking for a bike for my teenage daughter. She doesn't want a cruiser and occasionally goes off the bike trail. I'm looking for a sturdy, yet inexpensive bike that will keep her safe on all of her adventures.

The website Wheel and Sprocket gives the Trek Women's 3700 a stellar review. The editors of the site loved the light aluminum frame, the easy shifting and the more than adequate brakes. Plus, the bike comes in great colors.

The website also gave high marks to other Trek models including the Trek 4300, Trek 6000 and the Trek 6500. While these bikes offer more luxury and options their price-tags are significantly larger.

The Schwinn Ridge AL Women's Mountain Bike is rated four out of five stars on Amazon.com, and the user reviews are glowing. Women rave that "you cannot beat this bicycle for the price" and it is a "great little starter road bike."

While the bike isn't cheap (between $220-$260), it is far less expensive than the high end bikes on the market, which can run thousands of dollars.

Now if you don't have that kind of money to toss around here is a good one from Wal Mart 26" Ladies' Roadmaster Mountain Sport SX All Terrain Bike
2.8 out of 5 Stars. Got good reviews also. I bought a Mountain bike from Wal mart 2 years ago and still rides like new only paid $89.99 for it.
