I think I prefer Monopoly because there's more drama. One roll of the dice can suddenly change the game. There's nothing in Scrabble like the ups and downs that can happen in a Monopoly game.
Also Monopoly is more social. You could play Scrabble without hardly talking, but in Monopoly there's all the dealing, paying up etc, that makes it more lively.

I prefer scrabble because it has a definitive ending whereas monopoly can really go on forever. It's true you can play scrabble without talking, but it can easily be made into a social game as well. And you can always make it more interesting by adding rules like only spelling names, when normally you can't, etc.
