How about learning how to edit video?

Video editing is not hard to pick up, and it is a blast to experiment with. You can use home videos or create new ones. They don't have to be completely intricate. A simple webcam recording will do. PC's come with Windows Movie Maker and Macs come with iMovie, so you have an editor for free to work with! Try making a small music video or put together a much more animated picture slide show. Sometimes people don't have the patience to sit and make all the tiny cuts and adjustment in video editing, but if you look at it from a hobby/something-fun-to-do standpoint, it should be stress free and quite addicting! Here are some sites to help get you started:

- iMovie -
http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie
http://www.design.iastate.edu/LABS/tutorials/imovie/basic.html
http://www.uvm.edu/ets/tutorials/video/imovie/

- Windows Movie Maker -
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemaker/create/default.mspx
http://www.mightycoach.com/articles/mm2/
http://www.ischool.utexas.edu/technology/tutorials/graphics/moviemaker2/index.html

If you find yourself becoming bored with iMovie or Windows Movie Maker, invest in either of these programs. They're really easy to transition to and you don't need professional experience to get the hang of it. Just a thought for the future:

For PC - Sony Vegas: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/moviestudio
For Mac - Final Cut Express: http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/

Here are some reasons why this new skill could be useful:
1. Post greetings/family updates on YouTube or any other video hosting site
2. Compile home movies into one viewable file complete with chapters or even simple title headings.
3. Edit out parts of your video recordings you don't like/want before you send off to friends/family
4. Nicer photo slide shows complete with music, narration, text, transitions, effects, etc.
5. We are living in the digital age where 10 year olds know how to do this stuff, I promise it's not hard!

Good Luck!

P.S. If you need help with ANY of this stuff (I've used every program I listed plus more), don't hesitate to ask. It's kind of my life's passion.

One of the best experiences my wife and I ever had was climbing a mountain in colorado. Mt Yale to be exact. What a great hike and challenge. You will want to give up along the way, but you will want to get to that top and it is such a mentally and physically exhausting experiences.

Wow...that's amazing that you two take the time to do that sort of thing.

If you have some friends nearby, consider doing a series of "Master classes" with your friends. Where each friend, who has a certain specialty or skill, will teach that to the others.

To use cooking as an example, one of my friends is awesome with knife skills, another friend is a phenomenal baker, and yet another throws the best formal dinner parties ever.

The neat thing is this idea can be expanded into numerous different areas.
