You can actually get PADI certification during a week at Club Med, but I think I had more fun by showing up with a certification card. All dives are with a guide or dive buddy, so I was able to have a great time even though I was traveling alone.
Search the PADI site for a dive shop near you.

I learned to scuba dive at a local dive shop over a number of weeks of classes, pool and open water dives. I then followed my certification with a week long stay at Club Med Turks and Caicos. What an experience. Had my first night dive and 100 foot wall dive.
