In the article titled "What is the best beginner yo-yo?, The American Yo-Yo Association says that although "there is no BEST yo-yo for any skill level", they suggest seven kinds to try for beginners. These are the Yomega Brain, Yomega Raider, Duncan Proyo, Duncan Freehand, Spintastics Manta Ray/Technic, YoYoFactory Fast201, and YoYoFactory Velocity models.(3)

Presumably for more advanced players, "Mapping out a freestyle"(4) is answered by an article and map. A blank map can be used to map your own freestyle.
