I've run across a "Lens Error" or two. You might be right, you might need to clean it. Here is a great tutorial showing you how to clean your digital slr camera.
If cleaning it doesn't work, check out this note from Nikon:
http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/348
Or, if you have a Canon, this page is specific to their "E18 Lens Error":
http://www.e18error.com/
Basically, if cleaning it doesn't work the lens is having a problem that may need some professional assistance. Both Nikon and Canon have exceptionally good support so I'd give them a call after doing the basic stuff listed on how to clean your digital slr camera and the two other pages above.
Good luck fixing your camera.

Getting "Lens Error" on my new camera (I think it's sand/dust) Need some advice: do I take it apart and try to clean it myself? Other ideas?
