Here's some quick information about Mesopotamia in 5000 BC. For more info, click on the links.- 5000 BC was the earliest evidence of human culture in Mesopotamia. You might want to look at this timeline: http://www.wsu.edu/~dee/MESO/TIMELINE.HTM
- It was during the Ubaid period. For more info, try http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/ubai/hd_ubai.htm and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubaid_period
- "ca. 5000–4000 B.C. Ubaid culture, characterized by its distinctive painted pottery made on a slow wheel, arises in the south. As the culture spreads, local pottery styles are replaced throughout Mesopotamia extending into the eastern Mediterranean, Iran, and the Arabian Peninsula. Throughout the period, a sequence of ever more massive mud-brick temples is constructed at the site of Eridu." (http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/ht/02/wam/ht02wam.htm)
- 5100 BC Temples built and by 5400 irrigation is started. (http://www.packrat-pro.com/timeline/10000BC.htm)
- "Their homes were made out of bricks of mud that were then baked in the sun. Also the farmers irrigated their crops like wheat and barley crops by building canals where the water flow from the river into them and then into to the crops. The river they got the water form was the Euphrates River. In the Spring, when the river got overflowed it destroyed most of the crops."
(http://www.islavista.goleta.k12.ca.us/0203/rm24/victoriaw/mesopotamia_essay.html this is a great Mesopotamia essay) - Sumer was the ancient region in southern Mesopotamia that contained a number of independent cities and city-states of which the first were established possibly as early as 5000 b.c. (http://quizlet.com/print/349487/ has a list of Mesopotamia terms)
