I remember the day this was released and we were the first to be lucky enough to get one. I must say that this toy holds a very special place in my heart. I don't know what we'd do without NES on some days. Although I never perfected or understood the reasoning behind releasing R.O.B. I played this system everyday, conquering every Zelda game, beating all the Mario games, and even games like The Simpsons Bart Vs. the World to the extent that the cartridge would get hot. This is by far and away the best system Nintendo has released, but you've got to give credit for the Wii and the other systems Nintendo has released. Without this one, the Wii wouldn't be here. This is where it all started, making 1985 a historic year in gaming history. I still wonder about the port on the bottom of the system.

I was born in 1984, so all I really think of when I try to picture the 80's are the toys that I miss. When I think of 1985, My Little Ponies come to mind.

Volcanic eruption in Colombia. On Nov. 13, 1985, 23,000 people were killed in Armero, Colombia, when hot volcanic debris flowed into the town from the erupting Nevado del Ruiz volcano.

On October 2, 1985, Rock Hudson died of AIDS. His celebrity status meant that everybody "knew" someone who had died from the disease, and that people other than gays, drug users, and Haitians could get affected. In essence, Rock Hudson took AIDS "out of the closet".

This photo might not have defined 1985, but it has defined the world since 1985.
