This photo represents the last year of minting the honorable Eisenhower dollar, and the amendment signed and passed by Jimmy Carter, to implement the Susan B. Anthony coinage act. It also signifies the beginning of a new "face" of the "commemorative" dollar piece. This changed the official U.S. dollar weight, from 22.7 grams to 8.1 grams, and the size in diameter by about -30%. One thing that didn't change, is the general theme of the reverse side of the both coins. They both depict the success of Apollo 11, and of course, "freedom."

Space Invaders was so popular in Japan that it caused a yen shortage and more coins had to be minted. Many regular produce and goods stores in Japan removed their products and converted into Space Invaders parlors overnight, complete with giant speakers broadcasting the 'thump-thump-thump' of the marching invaders. A true classic in every sense of the word.

Hmmm...overall, it was kinda dull, especially on the photo front. I nominate the official heyday of disco, the defining moment being when the Bee Gees' "Saturday Night Fever" album goes #1 for 24 weeks (although the film was released in 1977). ACK!! no escape for years!!

The Camp David Accords with Sadat and Begin that eventually resulted in their receiving the Nobel Peace prize (also in this year). It was a time of hope for peace in the Middle East and marked the first time there was real progress.
