The major historical events are:

1. Divali (Festival of Lights) - Hindu festival celebrated in India and across the world on Amaavasya, the fifteenth night of the dark fortnight of the month of Kaartik (October/November).
2. Eid-Ul-Fitr
3. Parang celebrations for the Christmas season - Performances by local groups of the traditional Spanish-influenced Christmas music (Parang).
4. Emancipation Day Celebrations - A commemoration of the emancipation of Africans from slavery in Trinidad and Tobago on August 1st 1834.
4. Tobago Heritage Festival - Celebration of Tobago
5. Indian Arrival Day Celebrations - Annual commemoration of the arrival of the first Indian Indentured labourers from India to Trinidad, in May 1845, on the ship Fatel Razack.
6. Point Fortin Borough Day Celebrations
7. Phagwa/ Holi Festival - Communal, joyous event in which participants release inhibitions and throw bright liquid or purple colored powder on each other with a laissez-faire spirit. The festivities reenact the legend of Holi (Holika).
8. Hosay Festival - Islamic festival observed by Shi'a Muslims throughout the world. This tradition takes a more solemn religious tone as it is considered a time of mourning for the martyred.
