Frank Hornby patented Meccano in 1901. Meccano is a model construction kit with different shapes and pieces to put together models.

He patented the "Improvements in Toy or Educational Devices for Children and Young People"" which was later renamed "Meccano". This started as a toy he was making for his sons using scrap metal.
