Alexander the Great died on 11th June, 323 BC. Within 3 years of his death, the empire he had built crumbled, following conflict between potential successors, known as the Wars of the Diadochi.

Macedonians never again played pivotal roles on the world stage, except for a 200 year period when a Macedonian dynasty ruled the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium).
