I just wanna know what ireland and Uk peole think usually... They hate each other?
As a UK citizen (from England) I have to say we don't hate the Irish at all...
I just wanna know what ireland and Uk peole think usually... They hate each other? or they just think it is tragic and it should never happen...
In fact many people in England actually have Irish family connections (especially in cities such as Liverpool which was a major port for Irish Immigration). The UK is full of Irish people, Irish pubs, and many Irish comedians and entertainers are on UK TV. Terry Wogan is even considered a national treasure, and his recent announcement that he was retiring from his popular radio show was national news for a week, with the newspapers full of tributes to his broadcasting career.
Irish people are in our Football teams. We regularly enjoy playing them at Rugby and other sports, they are family, friends and colleagues to most people in the UK.
From the benefit of people outside of the UK, Its probably worth mentioning that Ireland is divided into 2 separate areas. Northern Ireland (which is part of the United Kingdom) and The Republic of Ireland (Eire) which is a completely separate country.
At the risk of over simplifying a very complex and politically difficult situation the ‘conflict’ is due to the fact that some of the population of Northern Ireland wish want to join the (‘catholic’) Republic, whilst another part of the population are equally determined to stay in the (‘protestant’) United Kingdom. This conflict has gone on for centuries now and ‘atrocities’ murders and terrorist activities conducted by minorities on both sides and the actions of both countries. If you ever have the misfortune to get stuck in an argument with anyone from either side, be prepared to have them list off a long list of historical events, battles, atrocities that explains why the other side are clearly in the wrong.
In recent years the terrorist groups have officially declared an end to violence and have de-commissioned their weapons. Both sides are sharing power in a ‘Northern Irish Assembly’ which has devolved power from London to Northern Ireland.
I can’t say what the Irish think of people from the UK, but Irish comedian Dara O’Brian has just written a great book about how Irish people see the English. He likes us but considers us strange in a few ways. If you can get a copy I’d strongly recommend it.
