Historically, when was the first verifiable documented use, or appearance of the name Maxine? I would tip for a good genuine answer

Not a trained researcher, about 4 years ago I laboriously followed Google, etc, etc links & drilled down through various genealogy records to find a Maxine - someone's wife - in 14th century England.
However, I became weary and stalled there (and even forgot to log the web page & site).

I am going to suggest that the name Maxine is actually a corruption of the Latin Maxima, which goes back at least 1800 years. There is actually a common French name Maxime, which is for males, derived from the same, and this may be a feminine version of that name.

For an early Maxima, see St Maxima of Rome, who was beaten to death in 304.
