Does anyone know who was about 20th in line for the British throne in 1954? Or where I could find the line of succession from that year?

This question depends on the date in 1954 that you are talking about. If it is after Aug 23rd 1954 then the 20th in line would be Elena of Romania, if it was before that date it would be Irinia of Romania.

The reason for this is that Haakan Lorentzen became 15th in line for the throne when he was born on that date.

1. Charles
2. Anne
3. Margaret
4. Henry, Duke of Gloucester
5. William, of Gloucester
6. Richard of Gloucester
7. Edward of Kent
8. Michael of Kent (he didn't forfeit his line of succession until 1978)
9. Alexandra of Kent
10. Alexandra Duff
11. James Carnegie
12. Olav of Norway
13. Harald V of Norway
14. Princess Ragnhild of Norway
15. Haakan Lorentzen *
16. Princess Astrid of Norway
17. Carol Lambrino
18. Michael of Romania
19. Margarita of Romania
20. Elena of Romania
21. Irinia of Romania

I used my knowledge of how the lines of succession works (learning history in the UK!!) combined with births and death dates on wikipedia.

I've looked at a few sources and, based on years of birth, the 20th person in line for the British throne as of 1954 seems to have been HRH Prince Michael of Prussia (b. 1940), brother of Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia.

However, it seems, once you go back to the 5th or 6th person in line, you're way outside the family and the chances are extremely low of ever obtaining the crown.

The list is pretty interesting in that you see how connected many nations are via marriages.
